Groundbreaking Ceremony Held on Wagner Creek and Seybold Canal Restoration Project in Miami

 In News

This week, Al Maloof of GJB Consulting joined Miami-Dade Commission Chairman Keon Hardemon, Commissioners Wifredo “Willy” Gort and the Office of Capital Improvements and Sevenson Environmental Services, Inc. to break ground on a $30 million project to clean up one of South Florida’s most polluted waterways.

The project is funded from three sources: grants from the Florida Inland Navigation District and Florida Department of Environmental Protection; and a State Revolving Fund loan to cover the balance of funds needed. The goal of the project is to remove toxic dioxins, fecal matter and dumped items in Wagner Creek and Seybold Canal in Miami. The waterway was so contaminated due to dumping of dangerous chemicals that its fish were deemed too toxic to eat.
The work will take place from N.W. 20 Street to the Miami River and should be completed by the fall of 2018. GJB represented environmental engineering and construction companies in winning the contract.
